I’ve been taking pictures for much of my life, but I started to get more serious about it during the past decade, around the time I turned 60. Go ahead, do the math. I’ll wait.
I was a journalist for much of my working life, so I was much more of a word guy than a picture person. But that experience gave me some valuable photo training, even though I didn’t really know it at the time. 1) I worked with some great news photogs, and I learned quite a bit simply by watching them; and 2), journalism is about watching and noticing things, and then telling people about the things you saw. Photography is just a different way of story-telling.
I’m trying to get better at this, so your comments and critiques are much appreciated.
