We lived next to a golf course in Dunedin, FL, and it turned out to be the next best thing to an actual bird sanctuary. I spotted all sorts of birds there — everything from eagles to red-tailed hawks to anhingas to owls and all sorts of water fowl. It’s what got me interested in bird photography.
I saw interesting birds so frequently that I started carrying a camera on my morning walks. I’d walk on the golf course in the early morning, before the golfers were out, and I seldom came home without good pictures.
No doubt about it, Florida is a birder’s paradise.
That eagle above was sitting in a pine tree on the course, and he didn’t seem to mind when I got close to him. I wasn’t as close as it appears, though — I shot this with a 70-300 zoom lens, cranked out to the max.
